Broxton does rehab stint in Albuquerque

An elbow bone bruise has sidelined him since May 3, and he was sent to Triple-A Albuquerque, where he made a pair of one-inning starts.

Broxton gave up one earned run on one hit and struck out two Tuesday night, and struck out three in his inning of work Thursday.

When he leaves the Isotopes to return to Los Angeles, the closer spot might not be waiting for him.

"It's hard to just bring a guy back and throw him right in that ninth-inning spot," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly told the Los Angeles Times . "I think we'll try to get him into some games, get him comfortable out on the mound and see where he's at and then go from there."

Broxton has struggled at times this season as the Dodgers' closer.

Though he's converted seven of the eight saves opportunities at the big-league level, he's posted a 5.68 ERA with eight earned runs in 12 innings pitched.

ROOKIE DEBUT: North Augusta High School product Jackson Whitley got his first taste of professional baseball last week when he made his debut in the Arizona Rookie League.

He went hitless in his first two games but got an RBI single in the third inning of Friday night's game.

MOVING UP: After a strong first half of the season in the South Atlantic League, former Greenbrier High School and Georgia Tech starting pitcher Brandon Cumpton has earned a promotion.

The All-Star right-hander was elevated to the Advanced-A level Thursday and joined the Bradenton Marauders of the Florida State League.

Cumpton went 7-4 with a 4.30 ERA in 13 appearances for the Asheville Tourists and has yet to make a start for his new team.

COASTAL CLASSIC: The South Atlantic League announced on Friday that the Charleston RiverDogs will play host to next season's South Atlantic League All-Star Game.

Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park in Charleston, S.C. will hold the game June 19, 2012.

"The Charleston RiverDogs are extremely proud to serve once again as the host for the South Atlantic League's All-Star Game," general manager Dave Echols said in a statement released by the team. "We know that Charleston is one of the friendliest cities in America and one of the league's premier destination cities, and we will certainly roll out the red carpet for the players, coaches, fans and sponsors."

Charleston lasted played host to the All-Star Game in 2004.

Solar rip-off? Many L.A. area cities overcharge for permits ...

If you took ALL the money (subsidies, grants, rebates, materials, labor, permits, roof reinforcement) and put into residential solar and put it into an industrial size solar facility, you would get over 3 times the energy. LA is NOT as good a place for solar as you think. Smog, dust, coastal fog, rain all lessen solar power dramatically.

One with economic sense would put solar where it is most economical - that wouldn't be the LA basin.
