Maritime manufacturer to spend $3.3M to expand Ponchatoula site
A maritime manufacturing company will spend $3.3 million to expand its facility in Ponchatoula and hire almost 40 new workers.
Gov. Bobby Jindal joined Elevating Boats CEO Ken Serigne and Plant Manager Ronald Ricouard today to announce the expansion. EBI manufactures offshore lift boats, pedestal cranes, gearboxes, hydraulic winches and other mechanical and hydraulic components for the global market. It also has facilities in Braithwaite and Houma.
Its plans include the addition of 6,400 square feet to its Ponchatoula facility and the production of a new gear system for the boat and oilfield industry.
The expansion project will create at least 39 new direct jobs with an average salary of $43,403 according to Louisiana Economic Development. The company already employs 28 workers at the Ponchatoula site.
To secure the project, LED offered Elevated Boats an incentive package that includes the Quality Jobs Program, which provides a 5 to 6 percent rebate on payroll taxes for 10 years, along with property tax abatement for materials used in new manufacturing.
“These programs have aided our company’s ability to expand our operations in Tangipahoa Parish in support of our domestic and international sales,” Serigne said in a statement. “This expansion will allow us to increase employment and support our company’s growth while continuing to provide quality jobs for the people of our area.”
The expansion is scheduled for completion at the end of September, and the new jobs will be filled by the first quarter of 2012.

Fire damages boat-lift builder's offices
Part of the building for boat-lift manufacturer Davit Master was damaged Wednesday night in a fire.
The Pinellas Park, Fla., offices were affected, but a firewall prevented the two-alarm fire from spreading to the manufacturing area of the 12,000-square-foot building, Pinellas Park Fire Lt. Gary Berkheimer told the St. Petersburg Times.
The cause of the fire was still being determined.
