VivirLatino: Sotomayor Still Under Attack with New Old Stereotypes

The attacks on Obama’s Supreme Court Nominee, Sonia Sotomayor, haven’t let up. Newt Gingrich, everyone’s favorite oppressed white man, took a step back from the assertion that Sotomayor claiming her identity equals racism. Then we have Pat Buchanan talking about Sotomayor and that Puerto Rican group (cuz you know there is only ONE Puerto Rican group). Last pero certainly not least is the cover of the National Review featuring Sotomayor as a slant eyed, bucktoothed Buddhist. Ah yes, porque a Puerto Rican can’t be wise draped in a Puerto Rican flag, eating a bacalaito, and shaking her big ass. And anyway that would be a Puerto Rican stereotype. Much better to use an East Asian physical stereotype and Asian model minority/smart stereotype, no?
