Friday SF Bay Area Discussion on Nomination of Judge Sotomayor

The Bay Area Lawyer Chapter of the American Constitution Society, Alliance for Justice and the Equal Justice Society will this Friday host a panel discussion on the nomination of Judge Sotomayor to the United States Supreme Court and the upcoming July 13 hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The brown bag lunch event is on Friday, July 10, 2009, from Noon to 1:30 p.m. at Coblentz, Patch, Duffy & Bass LLP, One Ferry Building, Suite 200, San Francisco, Calif. RSVP here.

Panelists will address questions such as: What can we expect from the confirmation process? What sort of questions should the Judiciary Committee be asking Judge Sotomayor? What does Judge Sotomayor’s record tell us about what kind of Justice she might be?

The panelists include:

Stephen Berzon, Co-Founder and Partner, Altshuler Berzon LLP and Member, Board of Directors, American Constitution Society; Jeffrey L. Fisher, Associate Professor of Law and Co-Director, Supreme Court Litigation Clinic, Stanford Law School; Pamela S. Karlan, Kenneth and Harle Montgomery Professor of Public Interest Law, Co-Director, Supreme Court Litigation Clinic, Stanford Law School and Member, Board of Directors, American Constitution Society; Eva Paterson, President and Co-Founder, Equal Justice Society; and Margaret M. Russell, Professor of Law, Santa Clara University School of Law and Member, Board of Directors, Equal Justice Society.

Christopher Arriola, former President, California La Raza Lawyers Association, will moderate the panel.

The American Constitution Society is a State Bar of California approved MCLE provider. This activity has been approved for 1.5 hours of MCLE credit.
