MALDEF: Host a Vote Watching Party for Sotomayor

From MALDEF: The fight is not yet over. As we celebrate the movement of Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s nomination from the Senate Judiciary Committee to the floor of the U.S. Senate, we must continue to show our public support.
In the later afternoon or evening on Thursday, August 6, Senators are scheduled to vote to confirm the first Hispanic and only 3rd woman to our nation’s highest court. We are confident that because of her exceptional legal career and demonstrated commitment to the law Judge Sotomayor will be confirmed, but some Senators are still on the fence. Call your Senator (202-224-3121) and urge them vote in support of Sotomayor’s nomination.
We need more Republican Senators to follow the lead of Senators like Lindsay Graham (R-SC), Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and Mel Martinez (R-FL) who have all announced their support for Judge Sotomayor. Judge Sotomayor deserves a broad bipartisan vote of confidence. By coming together to watch this vote, you’ll not only be watching history in the making, you’ll be sending your Senators the message that you are watching them.
