Turnpike offering E-ZPass enrollment
-->The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission will offer instant E-ZPass sign-ups today and June 16 and 17 at the mainline toll plaza on Turnpike 66.
Sign-up teams will be working at the Turnpike 66 location from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Customers will leave with a windshield-mounted transponder they can use immediately on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and in 13 surrounding states where the E-ZPass logo is displayed. The E-ZPass transponder sends a signal to an overhead reader in the toll lane to deduct appropriate fares from prepaid accounts while drivers keep moving.
To enroll, a customer must provide a valid driver license, license plate number and a credit card.
Customers also can enroll at www.paturnpike.com, calling toll-free 877-736-6727, at any local AAA office, or by obtaining E-ZPass "GoPaks" at Giant Eagle markets and vending machines at turnpike travel plazas.

Barring any problems in the testing of the new tickets, turnpike spokesman Carl DeFebo said tickets displaying fares should begin to appear at midstate interchanges as early as next Wednesday. They’re already being given out at interchanges in the southeast and at the Pittsburgh interchange.
The Patriot-News broke the story in December about the commission’s decision to switch to tickets that list no fares to avoid having to reprint the tickets every year to reflect the annual toll increases required by a 2007 transportation funding law.
Turnpike officials said the move would save about $100,000 and was also an attempt to encourage more drivers to use E-ZPass. But unhappy turnpike users, along with state Auditor General Jack Wagner, complained and the turnpike reversed its decision.
