Single Lady- Dealing with Fear
“For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and a sound mind.” II Timothy 1: 7
Fear is one of the tools that the devil uses to prevent the children of God from fulfilling their purpose and destiny. Many of us live with fear and some women are in a state of almost constant fear, worry and stress. These worries prevent us from operating our lives at our best.
Many women, especially the matured singles who have believed God to marry, often fear they may never marry. Many who have been married before and do desire to be married again fear they will never meet the right man.
Many, who have been widowed fear loosing their husbands again if they do remarry, The fear of what people will say has robbed some women of their opportunities to be happy again. Some widows fear what their friends and in-laws would say if they were to remarry.
With those who are divorced, the fear of making a mistake the second time around can and does prevent some women from remarriage. When our life is ruled by fears, we are wasting a lot of time and energy
But I have great news for you! The Bible says that; “Our God has not given us the spirit of fear, but the spirit of power, and the spirit of love and the spirit of a sound mind.
Why worry about yesterday? Yesterday is gone! One of the best things about the past is that it is over! There is a much better place to focus your attention: the Present! This new moment is fresh and new.
God has given you the power to do or think whatever you want with it. I want to encourage you to seize that power by focusing your attention on what you want. Many of us fear what the future will bring before the future arrives, but you can never predict the future; you can’t control the future by worrying about it.
The fear of how do I pay my rent? How do I pay the school fees and bills? When will I have a man to call my own? When will my breakthrough come? Are all normal fears but they shouldn’t paralyse us.

Not given a spirit of fear
My mental inbox if crammed full of things to ponder and write about. Tonight I went to a great Bible study that turned that box upside down in my head, so I need to articulate one of those random thoughts.
There is a LOT going on in the world: economic instability on every continent, non-stop craziness in the middle east, natural disasters, etc. We are bombarded with frightening & disturbing news reports and projections, and it’s really easy to become fixated and fretful about all the things that COULD happen. And many of them may very well come to pass! So how can we stay up-to-date but NOT stay up all night worrying about the potential collapse of our future?
In the Bible study tonight, the speaker’s closing words were a sober warning about current events and some of the problems we should plan for. And his advice was good – we DO need to plan for hard financial times and other concerns. But as my friend TK and I were driving home and discussing it, the thought that kept flooding my brain was -
God will STILL be in control.
As long as we are seeking Him and are faithful and caring for others, He’ll be faithful and care for us. If we find ourselves in greater need than we’ve ever been before, He’ll provide for us in greater ways than we’ve ever seen before.
I’m reminded of an article I read years ago that was written by a missionary couple in a third world country. They believed miracles in industrialized countries like the US are rare because we have so many ways of meeting our needs. But miracles are common Very true! God is always with us and in control but most of the time we are too busy trying to help him out to see his WORK! As you said the Christians in third world countries who have nothing but God to depend on truly recognize miracles and protection as coming from the hand of their Lord and Savior! If we only realized the martyrs that are killed everyday in other countries we would get down on our knees and praise God for the protection HE is still giving America! We do need to be ready or get ready because HE is coming back and it will be in the blink of an eye! Let others see Jesus in our lives and share as the Holy Spirit gives us the privilege! Glad you could come last night … we were all thirsty….for the WORD and one of those times when you just wanted to stay all night drinking the water Jesus gave us so we would never thirst again! Blessings to all my sisters and brothers in Jesus Christ!
