TDS 022 - Reader's Choice: My Top 5 Championship Reigns

What’s up! It’s been approximately three days since my last post. To say the least I was busy as hell, and had little time to think let alone post a column up. The next week is going to be hectic, as I have three days of school left, I graduate on Sunday, and I have a bunch of family coming down tomorrow that I see very little of because of the proximity that they live from me. So, it’s going to be hard for me to get some alone time and type shit up. I’ll try my hardest, though, you can bet your last dollar on that!

Randy won the title from Rob Van Dam at Armageddon. He sporadically defended it, but when he did, it was always against a top-notch opponent. He held it for a total of seven months, and truth be told the last four months of this reign is what really put him over the top. Mick Foley may have had a big help in that, but Randall was on fire nonetheless. Admittedly, the E fucked up pretty big-time by giving him the World Heavyweight Championship just one month after losing this strap. I, though, am one of the few who actually enjoyed Randall’s first short reign with the title. If only they had more trust in him and gave him another three months with it. Oh well. I’ll admit a dirty little secret to you all here. My viewship didn’t truly start till half way through this reign. As a kid of ten years old, though, I hate Trips. He was that dastardly heel who constantly came out on top whether clean or with the help of Evolution. What really sets this reign up there is that whoever the challenger was, I was always rooting for them. For the lengths that I seen of his reign, it was guys from WCW who I always loved, such as Booker T, Kevin Nash, and Bill Goldberg. Triple H held that title like heels fail to do today. One of the big reasons I was against a streak vs career match at WrestleMania is because I’m awaiting the day that Trips returns as that dastardly heel and shows these up-and-comers how it’s really done. This was one of the most entertaining reigns of my lifetime viewership of WWE. Back then there were some very interesting tag teams afloat in the WWE, and MorriMiz dominated them all. One of the top things to put their reign over the edge was the constant rebuttals with Cryme Tyme online. To make it all better, they are both top superstars in the E today.

Randall was awarded the belt at the beginning of No Mercy. Then to follow Trips beat him for the belt. After that, Triple H defended it against Umaga in a Last Man Standing Match. To close the show Randall won it back. A clusterfuck to say the least. What happended afterwards, though, is what puts this up to number 2. At this time Randall was still one of my favorite wrestlers, so that gives it extra brownie points. Still though, he defended the belt twice against HBK Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho, Jeff Hardy, John Cena, John Cena and Triple H before finally losing it back to Trips. That is quite the list of feuds if you ask me. And every one of them was fresh. It marked the first and only time for him and Y2J; the first and only against Jeff Hardy; the first against John Cena. It was fresh, and it was awesome. I’ve said it recently in my columns, but this reign was just awesome. He had that strap for over a year before I believe he tore his pectoral muscle right before he was set to face Randall at the upcoming PPV that said Randall won the strap above. Anyways, he held it for a year and about a month and defended it against all kinds. Mick Foley, and Bobby Lashley were the two match-ups that really made it worth the while for me. As I’ve also said many times before, the summer of 2007 was amazing on Raw because of all the great talent that was swept there. Not extraordinary talent, but talent that I loved.

Match & Content List for WWE Randy Orton: Evolution of a Predator ...

WWE.com has released the full content listing for the DVD edition of WWE Randy Orton: The Evolution of a Predator .

Here it is below. “Evolution of a Predator” hits stores (DVD and Blu-ray formats) on September 6th, 2011 in the United States.

A documentary presentation showcases Randy Orton’s one year road to WrestleMania 27 with interviews, flashbacks to stand out moments in his career and a look at his personal life along the way. This is topped off by sixteen of Randy Orton’s greatest matches from 2001-2011.

Disc 1

I’m actually pretty happy with the match listing because other than the Backlash 2004 DVD I don’t own any of the DVDs that have the matches from this DVD. I already have WM 21, Unforgiven 2006, and SummerSlam when he beats Benoit on DVD along with the fact I was in Chicago live for No Mercy 2007 and NOC 2010 so I have the DVDs for that. I would have liked to see a Rated RKO match on there though and the Iron Man Match with Cena since I’ve never seen that.

How epically will WWE continue to fail with DVD match selection? The only great DVD they’ve done in the last few years for match selection was Cena’s Experience DVD. Every other one has baffled me. The continue to either pick the wrong matches or ones that have been on other releases. WM 21 vs. Taker, Hell in a Cell ’09 vs. Cena, Unforgiven ’06 vs. Carlito, Bad Blood ’04 vs. Shelton Benjamin, Cyber Sunday ’07 vs. HBK, LMS at Unforgiven ’07 vs. HHH, the Six Pack Challenge from NOC ’10, or at least one match where he teamed up with Edge. Why the hell are the garbage matches with Dusty & Hogan on here? Why the hell is the awful match he had with Angle on here instead of the superior match they had at One Night Stand (where Orton showed just how good he could be as a heel)? His match with Benoit where he won his first world championship should have also been here, despite Benoit’s current status. They had him on the Nitro & Chamber anthologys, and that was such a huge moment in Randy’s career.

I don’t like John Cena & Edge matches as they show Orton losing both belts. What kinda matches are they to be added on a career highlight dvd??

I would have like to see Ortons’ Mania21 match w/Undertaker, Last Man Standing Match w/Triple H (no mercy 2007), tag team title win on RAW with Edge (as Rated RKO) or his tag team match with Cena vs.
