5.5 Briggs And Stratton Help - Tech Support Forum
Is it possible that I ran the engine with water in the oil and over heated the engine and upon cooling down the engine seized and/or ruined itself? Keep in mind when I pull the pull cord the engine turns. I havnt tested the spark yet but at this point i would assume it is still getting spark. Im thinking the water soaked the air filter and I used the power rake, the engine sucked water from air filter into the engine? Is that possible, im really not sure where water got in but with a soaked air filter im left to assume thats how. If it were mine I'd do a few simple things before thinking of taking it into a shop. Start by removing the air filter and either drying it or replacing it. Drain the oil and the gas completely. Remove the spark plug and put some oil directly in the spark plug hole. After this leave the plug out and turn the motor over a few times to displace whatever is in the cylinder. I would pull the bowl off the carb as well and hose everything with carb cleaner to displace any water that may be hiding. Once you have completed these steps, clean and re install the plug (or replace if it appears fouled), fill full of fresh oil, re install (or replace) spark plug and give the rope a few pulls. Start off with minimal force in and work your way up to how you would normally pull if you were attempting to start it. If it feels like it should, put the bowl back on the carb, add fresh gas and see if it will fire up.
