Fans of the hit series Glee will be happy to know that The Glee Project makes its debut on Sunday, June 12 at 9pm on Oxygen. The Glee Project, from Glee creator Ryan Murphy, gives fans a ten episode documentary reality series that will find and train a group of talented performers who will compete to win a recurring role on Glee, the series.After a nationwide talent search for The Glee Project, Glee casting director Robert Ulrich will unveil a group of amateur and professional artists who will train with Glee choreographer Zach Woodlee and Glee vocal arranger and songwriter Nikki Anders to compete in The Glee Project in the true underdog spirit of Glee. Performers and Glee fans who have been waiting for the right opportunity to show their stuff now have a chance to win the role of a lifetime on Glee and work with Glee casting director Robert Ulrich and Glee Project mentors Zach Woodlee and Nikki Anders.
The hopefuls in The Glee Project will be narrowed down through intensive workshops, Glee themed assignments and call-backs as Ulrich, Woodlee and Anders carefully assess who has what it takes to be the next new face and voice of Glee.
Ahead of the June 12 premiere of The Glee Project on Oxygen, TheDeadbolt got the Glee goods directly from Glee casting director Robert Ulrich and show mentors Zach Woodlee and Nikki Anders.
THE DEADBOLT: Robert, can you talk about how a show like this streamlines the casting process for Glee as a whole and how it will help in the long run?
ROBERT ULRICH: I keep referring it to how it's just an extended casting process, because it was a wonderful casting process. Normally we're dealing with, week-to-week, a few hundred people. Or in the pilot, a few thousand people. This was 40,000 people, so the talent pool was large. That was great. Plus we were pulling kids from areas who would never have had the opportunity to audition for Glee. So it just opened us up to a whole different arena, a whole different kind of talent that we normally wouldn't have had because one of these contenders will end up on Glee.
If the show continues, it's a wonderful way to broaden the casting process. [That's] really what it is. As a casting director, it was so much fun to be seeing people again from little towns, people that some of them had never sung except inside their shower. To give those people an opportunity was wonderful. So ultimately it will help Glee because the person will be on Glee.

The Underdog Project is a House music band which launched its first album – It Doesn’t Matter – in 2001.
