Our Town: Summer kick-off for Party in the Park

On Friday, a marvelous family event that began in 2009 continues with food, live music and a movie at dusk. Sponsored by Ride the Wave, a creative and innovative volunteer group in Our Town, the 2011 season begins at 6 p.m. this Friday at the Walter and Mary Burke Park (City Park) on our beautiful Anchor Bay. Live music by Joey Vee and the movie, "Despicable Me," will be featured. Snow-cones and pizza will be available for purchase. Soccer skills with Carlos, face painting, and U.S. Coast Guard Look and Listen Skills and life jacket safety and more for guests. Questions? NB RECREATION CENTER celebrates Fathers Day: In honor of all fathers, the center is offering a FREE workout on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Other important recreation news: Only 60 entry spaces remain for the Triathlon, held in front of the Recreation Center on Saturday, July 9. Also, volunteers are needed for the event. Call to lend a hand. Hundreds enter from throughout southeastern Michigan. An invitation from coordinator Karen Winter is sent to Our Town to stop by for lunch and to experience the outreach first hand. Note: LOGIA has an abundance of clothing on hand and is not receiving donations for the summer months. Karen suggests that gently used winter coats be saved for the fall collection. Meanwhile, those wanting to donate food items, paper products (toilet paper and bath tissue), or laundry detergents and other non-perishables may take the goods to Donna's Creative Images on the corner of Washington and Alfred streets in Our Town. Many thanks on behalf of those receiving your kindness. 46th BAY-RAMA COMING June 22-26: Our Town is transformed in just a few days to one of the busiest places in Michigan. Our Washington Avenue becomes like mini Cedar Point with rides, games and Bay-Rama events to excite the entire family. Some special dates include: Wednesday, June 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the Festival Tent, the Miss Bay-Rama Pageant. Girls ages 16-19 who reside within the Anchor Bay School District are eligible.
