Documenting Baby's Growth Through Ultrasound Images

Many women only get one or two ultrasounds—if any—during their entire pregnancy. Those are usually done around the 12 week mark for a first trimester screen and the 20 week mark for an anatomical ultrasound if the gender of the baby is something that wants to be discovered. That’s how many I received during my first pregnancy—and they have come a long way in just over four years.

Due to the seemingly endless list of complications I’ve had, my ultrasound count is currently at four for this pregnancy. I love being able to see my baby’s heart beating on the screen and all of his little parts. I’m amazed how much he has grown each time I go in for an ultrasound. It’s not that I don’t know he is growing and changing inside of my on a rapid basis, but seeing it first hand is incredible. For me it is totally worth the full bladder and feeling like I’m going to pee my pants that I have to endure the hour before my appointment.

I’ve also been fortunate enough to have to go to a facility that specializes in 3D ultrasounds. So instead of the grainy 2D images I got when I was pregnant with my first son, I get to see the surreal 3-dimensional images of the little guy growing inside of me (with the exception of the very first ultrasound this time around).
