We need a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit each day

Just before His trial and crucifixion Jesus told His disciples about the Comforter, Helper or the Holy Spirit Whom He was going to send them. Jesus said in John 16:5- 8, "But now I go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, 'Where are you going?' But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment."

From the creation of this world the Holy Spirit has been at work helping mankind to be victorious over sin. In most instances the Holy Spirit speaks to men "in a still, small voice." However, at a special time called Pentecost, that is 50 days after Christ's resurrection, the Holy Spirit came down "from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind."

"And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language. Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, 'Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born?'" Acts 2:6-8

Truly, the language of the soul is one's mother tongue and that is why the gift of tongues, which consisted of real languages, was given. (See Acts 2:8-11) Some think that the speaking in tongues is the needed evidence that one has received the Holy Spirit. However, there is no biblical record that Jesus or John the Baptist spoke in tongues and both were filled with the Holy Spirit from their mothers' wombs.

We need a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit daily. This will happen when we prayerfully spend quality time in the study of the Word of God. The Word of God in the first place was inspired by the Holy Spirit who gives us the proper understanding of the Word. That is why Jesus prayed, "Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth." John 17:17

May we have true love for one another and unity so that we may "not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption." Ephesians 4:30

When the disciples "all th one accord in prayer" the Holy Spirit came upon them with power. It was by this power that God's work prospered wonderfully. May it also be so with us as we meditate upon the Feast of Pentecost at this time of the year.

19. The Gift of Tongues or Languages - The Instructor of Truth ...

Answer: “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come … And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marvelled…” ( Acts 2:1, 5-7 NOTE: Let us point out that in the City of Corinth, the center of the Greek language did influence some people concerning tongues. People try to figure out the “unknown tongues.” These different languages called for rigid rules from the Apostle Paul to control it. A student of tongues will be cautious and will note that what Paul said is speaking of translatable languages. NOTE: That is why we stand opposed to the jabbering called, “Speaking in Tongues.” No unsaved person can understand a foreign language unless he is skilled in the language. Therefore any language you do not understand becomes a jabbering. Therefore, if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me. NOTE: We find a mindless ecumenism that brings people together in an unequal yoke and makes speaking in tongues the basis for fellowship rather than salvation and obedience to the Bible. There is a great reluctance of charismatics to contend for the faith as written in the Bible. The Biblical tongues are not jabbering or ecstatic utterances but known languages imparted by the Holy Spirit to be heard and spoken. It is not an evidence of salvation.
