Police seeking cause of Junction City crash
JUNCTION CITY — Oregon State Police investigators still are working to determine what caused a recreational vehicle to veer onto the shoulder of Highway 99 and crash into a stopped car, killing the car’s driver.
Police on Thursday identified the victim as Nicole Andrea Post, 24, of Junction City.
Post was behind the wheel of a 1990 Honda CRX that was struck just after 7 p.m. Wednesday by a 32-foot-long Coachman Santara RV driven by Douglas Allan Bruce, 48, of Eugene.
Post’s car was stopped at a stop sign on Hatton Lane when the collision occurred, police said.
Bruce was headed south on Highway 99 south of Junction City when his vehicle traveled onto the highway’s west shoulder and crashed into Post, police said.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the wreck. Bruce was not injured, police said.
Post was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other occupants in either vehicle.
Bruce has not been cited or arrested in connection with the crash, which remained under investigation Thursday afternoon.
The impact of the collision pushed Post’s car at least 20 feet beyond the intersection and destroyed the vehicle. The RV sustained front-end and side damage.
Highway 99 was closed for more than two hours on Wednesday night while police investigated the incident.
