Zimo: Lightning McQueen saves Grandpa's fishing trip
G randdaughter: “Grandpa, I don’t want a life jacket.” Grandpa: “You need a life jacket if you want to go fishing. Remember, you really wanted to go fishing, and we’re gonna go today.”Granddaughter: “I don’t want to go fishing.”
You never know what’s going to trigger a crazy response from your kids or grandkids.
We had planned a fishing trip at ParkCenter Pond, and anytime you have nonswimmers near the banks of a river or pond, or going out on fishing docks, you need to have them wearing a life jacket, especially kids.
Well, I thought the fishing trip was done in. Hmmm. An idea!
Grandpa: “Let’s go see the fish at Cabela’s.”
I decided to take my granddaughter to see the fish aquarium at Cabela’s in Boise. Ha, grandpa isn’t so dumb, you know.
We saw rainbow and brook trout, sturgeon, bass and a big old catfish lurking around right up close and personal. (My granddaughter now wants one of those big catfish pillows at Cabela’s.)
The fish were a hit. Then we wandered over through all the fishing equipment, including rods, reels, lures and bobbers.
Granddaughter: “Can we use this to go fishing?”
Grandpa: “Yup, you can’t beat green PowerBait Nibbles.”
Then we mysteriously ended up in the life-jacket department.
Grandpa: “Wow, look at these little life jackets. There’s a pink one. There’s a red one.
“What’s this? Lightning McQueen?”
Granddaughter: “Lightning McQueen. I have Lightning McQueen shoes. I want that one.”
It was a done deal. She wore the life jacket around the store as we did a little more shopping.
She wore it through the checkout counter, through the parking lot and then to the car. It was hard to talk her into taking it off so she could fit in the car seat.
We lucked out. Thank heavens for Lightning McQueen.
Soon we were off, with PowerBait and a bobber, to ParkCenter to catch a big one.
We all should wear a life jacket when we are in a boat — that’s a no-brainer.
But people who can’t swim, especially kids, should wear life jackets anytime they are near water.
There’s a lot of confusion about kids’ life jackets. Sometimes, parents just grab whatever is available, and that could be dangerous. Life jackets for children should be specifically made for youths and infants, and they should fit properly. Water-ski waist-belt flotation devices and horseshoe-style collars don’t cut it for kids.
Pink Fishing Rod - News
Deiyantei caught four fish, the most out of the group. “It was fun to be out here as a family,” he said. Though she didn't catch any fish, Breyanna said she still had fun. “I liked getting my new fishing pole because it's pink,” she said.
Then we wandered over through all the fishing equipment, including rods, reels, lures and bobbers. Granddaughter: “Can we use this to go fishing?” Grandpa: “Yup, you can't beat green PowerBait Nibbles.” Then we mysteriously ended up in the life-jacket
This provides for some fabulous dry fly-fishing. There are good Cicada patterns at the local fly shops or you can use a black Chernobyl ant. Use a stout rod and a heavy leader to turn over the large flies. Work the bank and be prepared for a vicious
Along the way I've learned a few tricks to hooking kids on fishing. Sunscreen and bug spray are almost as important as a favorite snack. If a pink Barbie doll rod can lure your daughter along, it's an inexpensive investment in a potentially lifelong

The DFG trout plant from two weeks ago still has fishing in high gear. Pink PowerBait and inflated nightcrawlers are working on any windy point for shore anglers. Trollers have been picking up some 3- to 4-pound browns on Rapalas.
FisherGirl Wins Best of Show
Las Vegas (PRWEB) July 24, 2005
Best in Category Rod & Reel combo for its Mermaid line.
FisherGirl Inc. “soft-launched” its exclusive line of womenÂs fishing rods and equipment in the Canadian market earlier this year and was officially debuting its line to the world at the ICAST show in Las Vegas July 20-22 (both# 811).
“Being recognized in this way is a tremendous honor” says Terri MacKinnon, founder and CEO of FisherGirl Inc., “This is an awesome time for women  we fish and we like to fish, and now we donÂt have to give up our femininity to fish. So come on girls, raise your rods and letÂs go fishing!” And fishing they are – industry experts surmise that while fishing overall appeared to be in a slow decline as the core fisher people, namely men age and leave the sport, itÂs women who are picking up the slack in fishing participation. The 2001 National U.S. Fishing Survey determined that of the 10 most popular womenÂs sports & recreational activities, fishing shows the strongest growth with 10.8% increase in participation
FisherGirl’s products are made with women’s ‘functional needs’ and fashion sensibilities in mind, and itÂs FisherGirlÂs mission to “help women and girls Catch the Passion for the outdoors one fishing rod at a time.” ItÂs all about introducing women to fishing and giving them the tools that will help them have positive and successful experiences.
There is a need for fishing equipment specifically made for women. According to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service there are 34.1 million anglers in America and approximately 26 percent are women. Additionally, of the 28.4 million freshwater anglers in America, 26 percent are women. The numbers of women anglers continue to rise as witnessed by the increasing presence of women in tournaments. And with the unveiling of the WomenÂs Bassmaster Tour for 2006 by BASS and ESPN, this is likely just the beginning.
FisherGirl strives to tackle the misconception that fishing is predominantly a manÂs sport. “Anybody can fish. Fish donÂt discriminate as to who catches them, be it male or female, young or old. People today are searching for something that is different from the ordinary experience and FisherGirl offers this through fishing,” says FisherGirl founder and avid angler, Terri MacKinnon. “We want to share our passion for fishing and the outdoors with other women and introduce them and their families to a healthy lifestyle.
