New Jersey promotes fishing with Close to Home brochure
One of the things that always has intrigued me about fishing in New Jersey is the wide range of opportunities you'll find within its borders even though it's one of the smallest states in the nation. Sure, there are great waters for trout, bass and muskie fishing, but there also are places that harbor northern pike, lake trout and even salmon. In an effort to educate people about the many angling options in the Garden State, as well as get former anglers back on the water, the state Division of Fish & Wildlife just has come out with a series of brochures highlighting "Great Fishing Close to Home."
Each brochure showcases a different region of the state --Northern, Central or Southern New Jersey -- and includes information on the primary game fish and various waters found in that region.
According to New Jersey DFW Chief of Information and Education Jim Sciascia, the goal of the new brochures is to inform people, both those who currently fish and those who have fished in the past, about the angling opportunities they have close to where they live.
"All the states have been doing a lot of survey work. They're trying to determine why people stop fishing or why they don't fish as often as they did,"
Sciascia said. "One of the top reasons, of course, is time and conflicts with other activities in their lives. Another big thing is that they don't know where to go, or they don't have enough information about opportunities that exist near where they live. This is a good summary of all the different fishing opportunities that are available to people close to where they live, especially now the way gas prices are and the way the economy is. People are looking for things to do that are close to home and are relatively inexpensive. Fishing fits the bill nicely."
Inside each Great Fishing Close to Home brochure, anglers and prospective anglers will find information on more than 100 waters, including the types of fish available as well as details on acreage, boat and cartop launches, shore fishing and the closest town.
Sciascia said 100,000 of the 18-by-24-inch, full-color brochures were printed for each region, with 25,000 mailed in each region to people as part of the state's direct mail campaign. In addition, the brochures are available at state parks and other locations that offer fishing and other outdoor recreation opportunities.

Either way, newsletters are effective communicators of information which makes them a keeper in your target clients’ list.Printing an effective newsletter-like brochure is like cooking a dish. In order to get the most delightful taste, you need to include all the necessary ingredients to cook it right. For the most part, newsletters have two effective ingredients that contribute to its successful recipe: content and format. Hence, you have to consider the length of your brochure, and more importantly, what you have to write about.Nevertheless, just like when you’re cooking a dish, it does not matter that much whether you produce a whole batch that could feed an army, or just for two people. The most important thing is that your ingredients when put together create a delightful taste that appeals to everyone’s palate. Similarly, whatever the length that you choose to develop, your content would determine the attractiveness of your collateral to your target audience. Are your articles timely and informative? Are they interesting enough that your target readers would want to sit down and read more of what you have to say? Do you provide interesting information that is of value to your particular target market? This leads us to the next level, choosing the articles and stories that you would like to feature in your brochure. The types of stories you have would determine your ingredients for your brochure printing recipe. If you’re an expert in what you do, you would not find it difficult to concoct features and articles for your brochure. You might even be able to write your articles yourself. But if you find yourself having trouble coming up with stories that would be of interest to your target market, you can always hire writers to do it for you, or reprint something from published trade. But remember to always ask permission when you want to reprint an article, especially if you’re doing it word-for-word.Creating your brochures into newsletter may take you more time and energy; but it definitely has its rewards. What’s more, you save money and generate new leads in the process.
